Welcome the iTunesHTML.com affiliate program
As you may or may not know, iTunesHTML.com is a quick tool for listing the artist/album info from your iTunes library in HTML code so you can easily display your favorite music anywhere on the net that allows HTML submissions. It takes about 30 seconds to do, is free, very easy, and so far people seem to really like it. So you may be asking yourself:
why is there an affiliate program?
Because all of the artist info this tool spits out contains product links to Amazon.com that people can click on, along with a commission code that garners a 10% return on any music purchased during the visit to Amazon. Each iTunesHTML affiliate virtually has their own version of this tool to promote, which outputs links to their own Amazon commission account for every user that uses it. This 10% commission from Amazon is one of the highest and most succesful e-commerce reward programs on the net.
The purpose of the iTunesHTML.com Affiliate Program is to spread the Amazon commission codes of all of our affiliates among all of the links out-putted for users by the iTunesHTML service. So everyone signed up get's that 10% commission when a cd is bought from a link that, somewhere down the line, originated from their promotion (voluntary or involuntary) of the iTunesHTML service... As you can imagine, between the millions of people on sites like MySpace, Blogger, etc, and the vast popularity of iTunes, along with the ease of the tool, if you can get 10-20 people to use iTunesHTML.com it could easily result in a few million links across the net to Amazon.com products, all with your commission code attached. Even a very low purchase rate from those links could easily generate a substantial amount of money. All that is needed is an Amazon Affiliate Account. I am also in the process of adding support for the iTunes Music Store's Commission program as well, for direct song downloads...
Can such a small number of people really make that many links?
Sure, due to the way this thing works, it spreads itself in an exponential fashion. Each time a user generates an HTML representation of their iTunes library, it's has those Amazon commission codes in there for each artist link. At the top of the list it says
Powered by iTunesHTML.com So when anyone of their friends see the artist list and end up clicking that link to generate their own list, that second list ALSO contains the same commission codes of whichever affiliate originally spread the word, and so on and so on. It has a viral effect, and maintains the info about the chain of people that spread it, the technical back-end takes care of all of this...
Can I sign up more affiliates in a pyramid-like fashion?
Of course you can (and should), you will get a certain percentage of links containing your commission code in anything that originates from them as well... In the end iTunesHTML spits out many links with the codes from whichever affiliates were in the chain.
Is this a pyamid scheme?
Sort of...Only it doesn't cost anything and it doesn't hurt anyone. On the outside, all it does is provide an easy way for people to display their music collections on the net. For any person that generates HTML on iTunesHTML.com, the artist links are sorted like this:
- 60% of the links contain the original affiliates commission code.
- 20% contain iTunesHTML.com commission code..
- 20% contain the code of whoever referred the original affiliate to the program (if any).
